Racial tolerance in South Australia ‘too high’

Tory Shepherd: The Advertiser | September 30, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24423463-2682,00.html

The “disappointing” results are from a 10-year survey called Challenging Racism, to be released at the 4Rs (rights, reconciliation, respect and responsibility) International Conference in Sydney this week.

A cultural gap yes,

but we’re not racist

ONE in two South Australians do not like the idea of a close relative marrying a Muslim, while one in three are against marriage to Aborigines or black Africans.

Despite this, only one in 10 actually admits to being racist.

Project leader Professor Kevin Dunn, from the University of Western Sydney, said yesterday the levels of intolerance in SA were “too high”.

“It is too high and we ought to be concerned,” he said.

“It does point to what many of us know, which is that there’s a strong level of Islamophobia – and that’s the same from state to state.

“It’s a really disappointing result, and it’s to do with representations. The anti-indigenous sentiment is shared across cultural groups and in many localities and regions, so it is nothing to do with actual contact.”

The study also found 40 per cent of South Australians believed there were cultural or ethnic groups that did not fit into Australian society and almost that many thought the country was “weakened” by ethnic groups “sticking to their old ways”. However, 85 per cent believe all races of people are equal and only 12.4 per cent said they were prejudiced against other cultures.

The results show that, overall, SA is less tolerant than Victoria but more tolerant than NSW.

Older people were slightly less tolerant and women were slightly more tolerant than men, except when it came to marrying a Muslim.

West Croydon author and cross-cultural educator Janine Evans converted to Islam about 16 years ago after meeting her future husband Yazeed and she said she was saddened but not surprised by the results. “Sixteen years ago, before I became a Muslim, I would have been shocked, but now it doesn’t surprise me at all,” she said.

“It saddens me, but only because not enough work is being done. Education is a powerful thing.”

Professor Dunn said education in schools and in communities was the key to fighting racism.

The 4Rs International Conference will include a debate on the social impact of the first 300 days of the Rudd Government, a review of the NT intervention and the premiere of a documentary called Intervention, looking at life under intervention in the town camps of Alice Springs.

I stand by yesterday’s comment on the same topic.

Amongst them it reveals that Australians are less impacted by the politically correct efforts of successive governments and media agencies than previously thought by politically incorrect disidents such as myself, and are quite capable of separating the truth from politically correct propaganda. 40pc believe others don’t belong here

The Advertiser | September 28, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24415273-5005962,00.html

FORTY per cent of Australians believe some ethnic groups do not belong in the country with one in 10 having outwardly racist views, a new study shows.

New South Wales tops the list with racist views, but lead researcher on the project Kevin Dunn puts it down to Sydney being the focus of international migration to Australia.

The study, led by human geography and urban studies Professor Dunn and his team from the University of Western Sydney, reveals racism in Australia has waned over the years but the figures remain high.

He will unveil the state-by-state statistics on Friday at the 4Rs international conference – Rights, Reconciliation, Respect and Responsibility – at Sydney’s University of Technology.

Challenging Racism: The Anti-Racism Research Project has randomly surveyed about 12,500 people in different studies during the past eight years.

Prof Dunn attributes the results to people’s overarching views.

“It’s an indicator of a narrow view of what constitutes Australianism,” he told AAP.

People were asked which cultural/ethnic groups do not fit into Australian society. NSW topped the list with 46 per cent of survey respondents saying some ethnic groups should not be in the country. The ACT had the lowest such response with 28 per cent.

Prof Dunn said people also revealed who they singled out the most.

“The most often-mentioned groups were Muslims or people from the Middle East.”

The overall figures surge to 65 per cent for people over 65 but drop to 31 per cent for those aged 18 to 34.

“It’s too high, isn’t it,” Prof Dunn said.

“We’ve got to bring that down.”

On average, about one in 10 people said it was not good for people of different cultures to marry and about the same number said not all races are equal.

“It’s only about one in 10 people now in Australia across the different states that would have that sort of view – the racial supremacists for instance,” Prof Dunn said.

“That’s still quite high I suppose – there’s a lot of concern that comes out of that.”

He said NSW ranked highest in most categories but attributed that to Sydney being the country’s focus for immigration.

“There’s just more cultural diversity here – there’s more opportunity for cross-cultural contact and that means some of them will not be positive ones.”

Prof Dunn and his team will release regional results within each state sometime early next year.

They will also recommend strategies to lower Australia’s level of racist views, which he said remain low by international standards.

Comment:
This report could show a number things. Amongst them it reveals that Australians are less impacted by the politically correct efforts of successive governments and media agencies than previously thought by politically incorrect disidents such as myself, and are quite capable of separating the truth from politically correct propaganda.

On the other hand, the report does not give racial based statistics of those surveyed. A casual reading of the report would lead the average reader to think that “The Anti-Racism Research Project has randomly surveyed about 12,500″ White Australian people. For all we know, a large percentage of those interviewed may be of at least four distinct racial and cultural groups. How many who claim to be/or claim descent from Australian Aboriginals and Arabs were interviewed? Out of those interviewed, how many declared that White people don’t belong here? How many “Jewish Australians” were interviewed who declared that “Muslims or people from the Middle East” don’t belong here? Ignoring any further potential impact on the survey by other racial groups, how many White Australians really were surveyed?

The real question left begging to be asked is: Which racially based group of people within Australia contains the highest percentage of racially biased thoughts, speech and behaviour?

US ’said no to Israel bombing Iran’

From correspondents in London: The Advertiser | September 26, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24405383-5005962,00.html

ISRAEL seriously considered bombing Iran’s nuclear sites earlier this year but US President George W Bush refused to support such a strike, a British newspaper reported today.

Quoting senior European diplomatic sources, The Guardian said Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert raised the issue with Mr Bush in a one-to-one meeting May 14.

Mr Bush said he would not support such a strike because of fears of retaliation, possibly on US targets in Iraq and Afghanistan, and concerns that the Israelis would fail to disable Iran’s nuclear facilities anyway, it said.

The newspaper noted that even if Israel had wanted to go ahead without Washington’s agreement, its planes would be unable to reach Iran without passing through US-controlled airspace above Iraq.

Iran would be bound to assume that Washington approved the strike, raising the prospect of an attack against the United States, it said.

Israel considers Iran its greatest threat, because of Tehran’s accelerating nuclear program and repeated statements by its leaders predicting the Jewish state’s demise.

Israel and the United States accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran has insisted its program is entirely peaceful.

Neither the United States nor Israel – the Middle East’s sole, if undeclared, nuclear armed state – has ruled out a military response to the nuclear standoff. [more ...]

Cab drivers targeted by thieves

The Advertiser September 26, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24405882-2682,00.html

TWO taxi drivers were assaulted in separate attacks overnight, with one cab stolen by a man and woman.

Police arrested a Christies Beach man, 26, and a Woodcroft man, 27, after they allegedly assaulted a driver and attempted to run off without paying the fare in Hindley St at about 2.30am.

The driver chased the men and one assaulted him leaving the driver with minor injuries to his face and hand.

The men ran through the railway yards before being arrested in the carpark of the Convention Centre, on North Tce. They were charged with aggravated robbery and failing to pay a fare and were bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court later.

In a second incident, a Caucasian man and an Aboriginal woman forced a taxi driver from his cab then stole it from a service station at Port Rd, Woodville West at about 4.40am.

The driver was not injured and his car was found at Port Rd, Queenstown, a short time later. Nothing was stolen from the car.

Anybody with information about these incidents should contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Life in Aboriginal Australia: Girl sexually abused as she lay dying

Nigel Adlam: The Advertiser | September 26, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24405406-911,00.html

A 14-YEAR-old girl who ran away from hospital was beaten with a lump of wood by a younger girl before being dragged into bushes by boys who tried to rape her as she was dying, a coroner has been told.

Observers sat in stunned silence in an Alice Springs court yesterday as a lawyer detailed the girl’s last hours, the Northern Territory News reported.

The inquest was also told that nursing staff failed to follow Health Department rules when the girl discharged herself from hospital.

Police were not alerted until 23 hours after she disappeared.

The girl was admitted to Alice Springs Hospital in January 2006 with a life-threatening blood disorder but left without telling anybody.

Coroner’s counsel Jodi Truman said a night nurse did nothing about her absence until the end of his shift the next morning.

The girl had gone to see her 17-year-old boyfriend but the youth’s 13-year-old “wife” saw the pair together and smashed the sick girl across the head with a 1m piece of wood.

Bloodied and bruised, the girl walked from the camp and collapsed on a footpath where she lay for several hours as people walked past thinking she was drunk.

Three boys came across her and carried her to the nearby grounds of a college, the inquest was told.

Two of them pulled down the girl’s tracksuit pants and tried to have sex with her.

One said he thought the girl was drunk, another thought she was dead.

The girl died of head trauma later that night.

The inquest continues today.

Anti-racism academic cheesed off with Coon

David Barbeler: News.com.au | September 26, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24405098-421,00.html

AN anti-racism campaigner says Coon cheese is next on his hit-list after the Queensland Government ruled a grandstand being rebuilt in the state’s south would not be renamed after E.S. “Nigger” Brown.

Toowoomba Sports Ground Trust chairman John McDonald said yesterday that while the grandstand bearing Brown’s name was to be demolished in coming days as part of an upgrade, the “N word” would be used on a plaque or statue at the new ground.

But late yesterday, Sports Minister Judy Spence ruled it would be inappropriate to use the racist term in any way.

Toowoomba academic Stephen Hagan, who campaigned against the name for almost a decade and even took his case to the United Nations, said his celebrations would be shortlived.

Mr Hagan said today he would now focus on fighting Dairy Farmers’ Coon cheese.

“Initially, Dairy Farmers said it was named after Edward Coon, who revolutionised the speeding process of making cheese,” he said.

“But I’ve questioned the authenticity of that story.”

Mr Hagan, said the cheese, formerly manufactured by Kraft, used to have a black wraparound and was named Coon as a joke.

“I want Dairy Farmers to show me the evidence of Edward Coon being honoured an honorary doctorate and what year he received that honorary doctorate,” he said.

“If they can prove to me that Edward Coon was a famous cheesemaker, I will drop my campaign.
“If they can’t do it, I’m going to fight them all the way, just like I did with Nigger Brown.”

Men can be domestic violence victims too

Amber Petty: The Advertiser | September 25, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24397363-5017200,00.html

VIOLENT relationships, it turns out, are a two-way street.

I recently commented on how unfairly many women are judged after finding themselves in violent relationships with men.

In the days that followed, I received many emails from victims. Surprisingly, many of them were from men, who seemed to be pleading with the world to understand that it’s not always the women who are the victims. Indeed, there are many men suffering in silence at the hands of their violent girlfriends and wives.

The stories I read were from men all suffering the same hurt, humiliation and sadness you would expect from female victims. There were a couple of things, however, that stood out that really isolated these poor guys even more.

There seemed to be an extra layer of humiliation for these victims, because in our blokey Australian society having your missus beating you up and sexually attacking you just doesn’t make sense.

Very few could bring themselves to speak out against their women, for fear their stories would never be believed.

Not even by those closest to them, such as family and mates, who normally would stand by them if they experienced trials in other areas of their lives.

Dave, from Aldinga, writes: “I have been married for 20-plus years and have two children. I have been abused for the past eight years and stay. Does that make me less of a man? Very likely.

“I see it as a strength to protect my children. Much of the abuse is generalised, not directed at me but more a venting of frustration.

“If I were not there, the children would get it – no child deserves that treatment.

“Why dont I leave? Women get given custody – simple as that.”

Another victim, from Salisbury, writes he has trained himself to switch off during the many attacks from his wife, who is suffering from bipolar disorder.

He has adopted this passive response for fear that if he retaliates, she will cry victim and run to the police, where his story is unlikely to be believed over hers. He, too, stays purely for the children.

On one really bad night, his wife was on medication and drinking heavily. She grabbed their youngest child and headed for the car. He ran towards them, grabbing the child in one hand and trying to stop his wife with the other.

While he tried to shield his child, his wife stabbed him in the leg with his keys six times. And, yes, he made a complaint to police, which was never followed up.

It came as a shock to our SAFM listeners and my male co-hosts when we received a phone call from Steve, of Hackham West. A burly 193cm, 110kg regular Aussie bloke, he was lying at home one night after being injured at a footy game when he heard a tap on his bedroom window.

It was a woman he had been dating for several months. She was clearly intoxicated and seemed to be after a less-than-romantic “booty call”. Being half asleep, injured and not particularly turned on by his partner’s entrance, he repeatedly told her: “No!” She then started pushing him towards the bedroom wall, knocking him down on to the bed where she restrained him and “raped” him.

As any brave person who has just been subjected to a serious crime would do, he called the police who arrived at his house and conducted the standard procedures they do with all rape cases.

When it got to the stage where he was asked by the police to hand over a photo of his partner, who had now become the accused, things went from bad to worse.

On seeing a beautiful woman staring back at them, they immediately turned on him, accused him of wasting their time as there was no way known he couldn’t have been “up for it”.

We women can rightly talk about inequality when it comes to a whole range of things. Maybe it’s time, however, we shared a little bit of that airtime with the guys because it would sadly seem that for them, in matters of violence and abuse, “no” most certainly doesn’t seem to be “no”.

Amber Petty is co-host of the SAFM morning show.

Comment:
Society tells us that if you are a heterosexual male, you are a violent beast who needs to be shamed into domesticity, while continuing to be held accountable for the actions of all bestial males. At least one woman has finally woken up to that idiocy.

Better late than never.

Residents oppose plans for Islamic school

Katrina Vella: Southwestern Rural Advertiser | September 24, 2008

http://bringelly.yourguide.com.au/news/local/news/general/residents-oppose-plans-for-school/1280973.aspx

A GROUP of residents who live on and around Gurner Avenue in Austral will fight the council over a new proposal for an Islamic school to be built on the street.

The group says it is opposed to the school for numerous reasons, but the main one is that members don’t believe the rural area is appropriate for such a large development.

The proposed school will accommodate 600 primary and high school students and offer a car park, library, hall and sporting fields.

The residents are concerned about additional traffic to the area, maintenance of the school’s water, sewerage and drainage systems, depreciation to the value of existing property around the school and the chance that the school will grow, because the plans suggest it can accommodate more than 600 students.

They are also questioning the need for the school as there are already two Islamic schools in nearby areas, Green Valley Islamic College in Green Valley and Sule College in Prestons.

Robert Paceskoski’s father Ilija lives on the street and the pair are concerned about what the school will mean for the area.

“The biggest problem with this is the infrastructure no one wants it here. The whole community moved out to a rural setting to get away from noise and traffic,” Mr Paceskoski said.

“And we complain all the time to council to fix the roads because they are unsafe.

“The local community can’t cope as it is and they want to bring all these extra people to the community. It’s going to blow everything out of proportion.”

Mr Paceskoski and his father are also concerned that their property will be forced into “lockdown” by the council, because if plans go ahead it will be in the middle of the proposed school and a road.

“It’s council’s responsibility to make sure we don’t get land blocked into a corner. The value of the land will depreciate dramatically,” Mr Paceskoski said.

A public information session was held by Liverpool Council earlier this month to discuss the plans which were lodged in November 2007 and put on public exhibition in April 2008.

About 25 residents attended the information session with the main objection being that people had not been notified about the plan or the information session.

A Liverpool Council spokeswoman said: “An advertisement was placed in the local newspaper, a sign was erected on the site, and all property owners-occupiers within a 500-metre radius were sent letters advising of the proposal.”

Mr Paceskoski said his family would continue their protest.

The application is currently under assessment and will be referred to the Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel.

‘Kick a black’ remark causes uproar in state parliament

Michael Owen, Political Reporter: The Advertiser | September 24, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24390627-5006301,00.html

TREASURER Kevin Foley has accused State Opposition leader Martin Hamilton-Smith of being happy to “kick a black” and engage in “racism politics”.

Mr Foley went on the attack yesterday in State Parlianment after Mr Hamilton-Smith asked a question about the HomeStart Finance “Nunga Loan” scheme – a home loan package designed for Aborigines – and the risks associated with them.

Mr Hamilton-Smith compared the Nunga Loans product to the subprime loans in the U.S. that sparked an economic meltdown.

He said loans above a property’s value were approved to high credit risk customers “augmented by additional loans to pay for credit card and hire purchase debts”.

But Mr Foley said: “We have done that for white fellas too.”

“When you want to make an opportunity, when you want to get into the headlines, you will kick a black,” Mr Foley said.

Amid uproar in the House, Mr Hamilton-Smith demanded the remarks be withdrawn.

“I object to being called a racist through asking a simple question in Parliament,” he said.

Mr Foley later withdrew his remarks, but not before accusing the Opposition of “racism politics”.

Last night, a spokesman for Mr Foley said since the Nunga Loan scheme had started in April, 2004, there had been $44.9 million of loans approved and $260,000 in debt written off.

Comment:
The policies of the Australian government are just like most once White nations and South Australia’s state parliament is no different. To even question racist policies in favour of non-Whites is enough to have you denounced as a neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic, Abo hating racist – but you get used to it.

While it’s true there is a similar housing loan scheme for low income earning and pension reliant White people, their finance scheme is not “augmented by additional loans to pay for credit card and hire purchase debts”. The additional loans are for Abos only.

‘Secret’ police to use fake IDs

Nigel Hunt: The Advertiser | September 20, 2008

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24377910-5006301,00.html

POLICE will have the power to create false identity documents for undercover operatives under new laws to be introduced in South Australia.

And for the first time, the identities of the undercover police officers will remain secret during court processes to prevent reprisals from criminals they help to apprehend.

Attorney-General Michael Atkinson, who will introduce the legislation into Parliament this week, said the new laws would help police fight organised crime “from the inside”.

“These laws will help expose drug trafficking, money laundering, illegal weapons trading and gang violence – including murder,” he said.

“The work of undercover police officers is critical to stopping some of the most lucrative and dangerous criminal activity in this state.”

The Criminal Investigation (Covert Operations) Bill 2008 is aimed at facilitating the wider use of undercover police officers to combat organised crime in South Australia.

It is also the first new law in the second wave of legislative measures aimed primarily at combating motorcycle gang activities.

The first wave included tighter firearms laws, riot and affray laws and measures to ban bikie gangs and stop members from associating.

The new legislation will allow police to create and use false identities – including driver’s licences and birth certificates – to investigate an offence or gather criminal intelligence.

“These laws will cover how false identity documents are applied for and on which grounds it can be granted,” he said.

“The Bill also dictates punishments for the misuse of false identities.

“It also provides greater legal certainty for covert operatives and agencies involved in undercover operations and delivers better police accountability than previous arrangements.”

A significant section of the Bill allows undercover police to give evidence in court without disclosing their true identities and potentially exposing themselves and their families to harm.

Under existing laws, an offender often learns the true identity of the undercover officer during the court process, even though the officer’s name is suppressed from publication.

“Protecting our front-line fighters in the war against criminal motorcycle gangs is paramount,” Mr Atkinson said.

“These brave and dedicated operatives need protection so that they can carry out dangerous but important investigations in the safest possible way”.

Under the new laws, false identities also will be recognised by interstate law enforcement agencies and cross-border recognition of witness protection certificates will be possible.

“Criminal bikie gangs don’t behave themselves once they’ve crossed a state border,” Mr Atkinson said.

“Sometimes they operate across different states to evade detection or capture. Cross-border recognition of South Australian undercover operations will make life easier for police and harder for criminals.”

The new legislation replaces and greatly expands the Criminal Law (Undercover Operations) Act 1995.

Those laws primarily covered the approval for such operations and gave police officers legal immunity, but did not specifically authorise the measures now being introduced.

Comment:

“Protecting our front-line fighters in the war against criminal motorcycle gangs is paramount,” Mr Atkinson said.

Their usual excuse for the erosion of laws divised to protect us from a tyrannical government.

We’ve already seen the abuse of similar powers in the United States by the FBI. Often they will plant a mole within an organisation who will then suggest, plan and go on to participate in criminal acts – usually murder, violent robbery or an act of terrorism such as the manufacture and use of home-made explosive devices.

Take the case of the Reverend Doctor Matt Hale. His ideals and speech were not appreciated by the Global Elitists who are hell-bent in the establishment of a one world order with the chosen few at the top and non-White domination of the populace in a socially dysfunctional society at the bottom. The government was unable to catch Reverend Hale in the process of planning or committing any crimes because he did not plan or commit any crimes. That is not his way.

So the FBI decided to plant a mole within Reverend Hale’s organisation – the World Church of the Creator – who not only recorded almost every conversation they ever had together, but also made numerous attempts to get Reverend Hale to authorize the murders of several different people over a number of years. Each time Reverend Hale refused to allow such actions and the FBI treated it as a setback. Finally the mole following orders from the FBI suggested the murder of a federal judge. Once again Reverend Hale refused to authorise a murder, however, the FBI ignored this fact and he was soon arrested and imprisoned on charges of domestic terrorism. Eventually Reverend Hale was convicted on the word of the mole, who claimed that while Reverend Hale was verbally against the murder of a federal judge, he was nodding and winking his approval.

TonyEvola-TRAITOR.jpg

Tony Evola - The Mole who wore a wire

Legal immunity from prosecution for police officers or moles and their ability infiltrate and manipulate otherwise harmless, law-abiding groups into planning and possibly carrying out criminal actions on behalf of a tyrannical government is something that everybody should fear. If police entrapment doesn’t eventuate in you being incarcerated for the term of your natural life, then you – the innocent – may still be gunned down or blown up as the result of a police undercover operation.

Don’t trust the government, and you may live a little longer.
