Australian internet filter to be compulsory

Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson: The Courier Mail | October 29, 2008

THE Federal Government plans to make internet censorship compulsory, putting Australia in the same league as China, Iran and North Korea.

The Government will not let users opt out of the proposed national internet filter, which could ban controversial websites on such subject as euthanasia or anorexia, when it is introduced.

Broadband, Communications and Digital Economy Minister Stephen Conroy admitted the Federal Government’s $44.2 million internet censorship plan would now include two tiers – one level of mandatory filtering for all Australians and an optional level that will provide a “clean feed“, censoring adult material.

Despite planning to hold “live trials” before the end of the year, Senator Conroy said it was not known what content the mandatory filter would bar, with euthanasia or pro-anorexia sites on the chopping block.

“We are talking about mandatory blocking, where possible, of illegal material,” he told a Senate Estimates Committee. [more ...]

Comment:
This also means that all sites or blogs written by political dissenters will be banned – unless of course your political dissention is in line with party (Labor, Liberal, Family First, et al) policy.

Anything deemed racist will be banned. Although this will not effect the millions of anti-White racist sites and blogs. Sites that purport to be “anti-racist” but in reality promote anti-White racism will be the beneficiaries of your future google searches.

All free hosting sites such as Google blogs, Yahoo’s Geocities and Lycos’ Angelfire will be blocked from Australians.

And of course, this site will be blocked.

How will this effect people such as myself? It means that instead of taking on every issue I take offence to and using a blog to make sure I have my say on the matter and leaving it at that until the next topic of interest comes up, I will be forced to pick and choose until I find a topic that is important enough to waste money on thousands of leaflets and the distribution process that goes along with it – and that’s something I’ve had a lot of experience doing.

The rest of you “Australians” can crawl into your kennels and bark at the JOG for all I care. I have made my plans and I know precisely what I’m capable of accomplishing.

Cailen.

It is putting the cart before the horse; we have not even a network to filter and the reduced speed will be most notable for the disadvantaged already with third world speeds and service!
We cannot trust Mr. Rudd in my experience, wish I was wrong!

I am testing the question of whether Mr. Rudd genuinely has only the interests of us Australians in mind or if it is more about infallibility at our expense meaning he is a populist with words and no substance!
To my own surprise and misjudgment I find in practice it is the latter of the two scenarios!

It seems we have been hood winked and I base this on what we see in parliamentary play time which I watch with disgust at every opportunity and my request of Mr. Rudd to come to the party and personally respond to my substantiated claims and evidence regarding Telstra and TIO cooperative efforts to hide liability and ignore accountability in regards to Telstra’s immoral action in breach of the TPA as well as ACCC and indeed the Labor Governments own Miscomprehension skills used to ignore problems even when ample evidence is provided!

The Labor and Liberal Government parties just stopped answering my emails so this is there tactic to not be accountable, are there other Australians that make serious claims with evidence and receive this approach by Government? Please have your say as we need to bring this out in the open!

Here is my experience and evidence which Government has been directed to and ignored, you be the judge: http://www.broadband.notice.com.au

If I lie may the Government prove it or address the problem, I call them and stand by my words!
They will not solve problems unless they are first able to accept the fact that such problems exist and have occurred to the continuing detriment of our economy!
Only by admitting mistakes can we use the opportunity to better our self’s, solving the problems on our way!
