MY HUSBAND was having one of his interminable showers when I discovered he was having an affair. It was Christmas Eve and his mobile phone was on the kitchen table. Tired of waiting for him, I picked it up.
He had not long before sent a message. I read it. “Dear Daphne. It was so wonderful to see you yesterday. I think your toes are as cute as the rest of you. I will get to (you) as soon as I can. Nx”
My immediate reaction was not to haul him out of the shower, but to scroll through his email to gather as much ammunition as I could. There, unfurling before my eyes, was the story of their affair.
I didn’t suddenly stop loving him, I started hating him. I threw him out that night (I stabbed him with a pen).
I took him back, he started cheating again, I threw him out. And on and on it went until I finally filed for divorce. [more ...]
